This week’s website is LocalHarvest.org. Local Harvest is a nationwide public directory of small farms, farmer’s markets, and other local food sources. It is easily searchable by location, product, or type of food source. The results list features include reviews, pictures, descriptions of the food source, links, and contact information. This type of resource is becoming more popular as the price of food increases and users look for ways to cut costs. Buying direct from farms is often cheaper than buying from stores (not to mention fresher!). Libraries should make an effort to gather resources that can help point patrons to these money-saving options.
